...The second major thing to happen this week was the arrest of someone on campus for possession of cannabis. Putting the issue of what they were arrested for aside, complaints have sprung up that Campus Watch called the police and that the Campus Cop – who is only supposed to be here in a liaison role – arrested someone.

Back when the Campus Cop was introduced OUSA was assured that he or she would be here to help students not police them. We’ve all received similar assurances about Campus Watch who were introduced under the justification that they are here to help students. Campus Watch are now taking on more of a role as enforcers of the Code of Conduct. A protest was organised last Wednesday over the demeanour that Campus Watch has adopted when dealing with students. I’m writing this before the protest so I’m not sure how it went; I’m sure a story somewhere in Critic will tell you...
