Cannabis swoops around Nelson

Nelson police are in the midst of their annual cannabis recovery operation.

An Air Force Iroquois helicopter is being used as part of the operation which has so far netted 2,500 cannabis plants.

Sergeant Steve Savage says over the past three days nine people have been arrested and charged with a variety of drugs and firearms offences.

He says stolen property valued at several thousand dollars, three illegal firearms and a quantity of ammunition has also been recovered as a result of the operation.
